Get involved!
There are many different ways to get involved at the museum. Different volunteer opportunities require varying levels of skill and training, but all require a respect for all visitors, volunteers, and staff, and a willingness to learn. Opportunities are available year-round during the week and on weekends.
Education
Docent – Volunteers can lead general and specialized tours for visiting school and adult groups. Volunteers may also help with specialized educational programs for visiting groups. Becoming a document requires specialized training.
Special Events – Volunteers can assist with the museum’s special events held throughout the year. Duties may include helping run a station, act as greeters, assist with educational activities, set up and tear down of the event, and more.
Research – Working under the direction of site staff, volunteers can assist with ongoing or new research projects.
Historic Trades – Trained volunteers can demonstrate their period-accurate historic trades during events and special programs.
Outreach – Volunteers can help with outreach programs at events and festivals.
Visitor Services
Reception – Volunteers can assist staff with greeting guests at the front desk and orienting them to the site.
Gardens – Volunteers can lend a helping hand (or green thumb) in maintaining the plants and small garden space in the historic area.
Grounds – Volunteers can assist staff with upkeep of the grounds, picnic area, and etc.
