Join the Tobacco Farm Life Museum in partnership with the State Archives of North Carolina and America 250 NC for the temporary exhibit One Day Wonder, “To Preserve the Blessings of Liberty: State Constitutions of North Carolina!"
Since the first state constitution was adopted in 1776, North Carolina leaders have rewritten the constitution twice and added more than 100 amendments. This exhibit provides an overview of the three state constitutions and their significant amendments that served to redefine the meaning of citizenship in North Carolina and who could participate in the political process.
The exhibit features duplicates of the 1776 State Constitution and Declaration of Rights, the 1868 State Constitution, and a letter from John Adams’ commonly known as “Thoughts on Government.” Archivists from the State Archives will visit the museum for the day to interact with visitors. Create your own "declaration of rights," complete a scavenger hunt, finish a word search, and explore the other temporary exhibit at the museum, "When Are We Us?" on loan from America 250 NC.
This exhibit is here for one day only, so don't miss it! If you would like to bring a school group, please email the museum educator at grayson.butler@dncr.nc.gov.
